“Alright, Casey, I got to wake up early for work tomorrow, so I’ll see you later.” There was a slight breeze, and Casey and I had just walked out of Joe’s Bar, ready to go home. It was the sixth of August I remember that night clearly, it was cold or at least colder than usual. I was a detective until the thrill of the chase was too much for me to handle. At least I was a detective, until that one night, until that one case ruined it all. But I think that my reason makes me a better detective in the end.

Some find it sick, and so I usually answer with something like saving lives or catching criminals. The feeling of having someone hide from you and the look on their face when you catch them. I became a detective because of the thrill. Most people assume that I became a detective to help people, and they’re not wrong, but that was onl y a small part of the reason.
